DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Environmental Planner I is the entry level class in the professional Environmental Planner class series. Initially under more direct supervision, incumbents assist in conducting environmental research projects and preparing compliance documents, applications and reports. Employees perform entry-level compliance planning assignments involving the collection and analysis of environmental and other cultural resources data and information. With experience, the work becomes progressively more diversified and difficult and is performed with increasing independence.

Environmental Planner I is distinguished from Environmental Planner II in that incumbents in the latter class independently perform more complex assignments of greater organizational impact and visibility.
