The Town of Wake Forest is seeking a knowledgeable and professional individual for the position of Planning Technician. This position entails a variety of planning activities focused on development review and current planning functions. Duties include the following: Answering questions about general zoning procedures and zoning permits; Processing and reviewing applications for various land use permits; Collecting revenue for permits, issuing receipts; Acting as secretary to the Technical Review Committee (TRC); Preparing maps, charts, and tables of limited complexity; Attending public meetings; assisting other planning staff as appropriate; Updating website. The position requires tact and discretion in handling public information matters in the various program areas. Work often requires a high degree of independence and decision making on the part of the employee. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Assistant Planning Director.
Any combination of education and experience which would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. Two years of clerical support experience in a planning-related environment, with at least six months of experience involving public contact, preferred. Coursework and/or undergraduate degree in city & regional planning, urban studies, geography, or related field preferred.
